Miffy

I graduated from high school and moved to a college town in Ontario....a completely new environment. The professors, students and curriculum are all new to me. On top of that....I felt so far behind compared to the other students.  So I started to lose interest in studying. There were probably other factors at play but ...I got to a point I felt like I didn't want to go on with my life! So I swallowed two bottles of aspirin and was sent to the hospital, without telling my family.  I told my friend who is now with Restart's caregivers group. She came to my dorm and picked me up. I stayed with her for the weekend....It was a long journey working on my mental health. I thank God for the many friends, my therapists that were sent my way. For the past twenty years, I have been working and thriving with the support of my community of friends and co-workers...still taking my medication but being gratefully here... one day at a time.

As of March 19, Lord willing, I am moving to Japan to become a full-time independent missionary.

Due to my unique circumstance of having lived through many years of health struggles, my medical records unfortunately disqualify me from the vast majority of traditional missionary organizations due to their "risk management" policies. The Lord has healed me and freed me from the need of medication since 2020 and my health has steadily improved to the point where I am compelled to follow God's call for me to enter into missions as confirmed by the leadership and elders of my church along with my church support network and mentors. The Lord has blessed me over the last 15 years with many connections to different churches, congregations, and Christian leaders through my time at seminary and ongoing mental health ministry.

When my daughter graduated from high school, I was totally unprepared for the years ahead. I struggled to accept her depression, her emotional outbursts, her relationship choices and her addictions....The friends and support I got through the Presence caregivers' support group helped me "hang in there" through one of the toughest seasons in my life. I am still walking with my daughter in her struggles. Just grateful that now I am not alone in facing the uncertainties ahead!  I am learning more about myself and how to be there for my daughter each day.
